Q&A with Sales Manager Marc Pereira
Whether you are planning a small business meeting or an executive board retreat, the country setting at Langdon Hall provides a natural setting to escape from the busy world and clear your mind of distractions.
As a seasoned corporate event planner who has been at the property for close to 10 years, Langdon Hall’s Sales Manager Marc Pereira has helped countless groups create a unique experience while also achieving those corporate goals.
What does Langdon Hall offer as a corporate retreat venue?
So many incredible things! Our country estate is located only one hour from Toronto or London along Highway 401 and offers 75 acres of peaceful beauty. I often have clients tell me the busy city life can be a distraction while their team is trying to strategize or simply trying to focus on team building. So at our property we offer a place for teams to escape the busy corporate world and truly focus on their agenda.
As a boutique hotel, we offer 60 luxurious guest rooms, award-winning cuisine, manicured gardens, spa with exercise room, and unique team building activities. We also offer those important features that everyone is looking for such as high-speed wireless internet and onsite parking (including valet service) at no extra cost.
How many meeting rooms are available at Langdon Hall and what features do they include?
Here on property we offer six different meeting rooms and I work with clients to determine which one best fits their needs. Our rooms range in size from 8 to 75 participants so to help with the planning it is always useful to know approximately how many participants will be joining.
If you are hosting a small group of business partners (approx. 8 to 14 people), you will enjoy the intimate atmosphere of our Main House, which offers two private meeting rooms, the Red Room and Colonel Langdon’s Room. Each boast the historical features of our revival-style 1898 grand home and include wood-burning fireplaces, a large mahogany table, and windows overlooking the grounds. They both also feature adjoining private conservatories that can be used as a breakout room, or set for a working breakfast or lunch, and acts as a beverage station area throughout the meeting. These two rooms are full of charm and offer a truly unique experience.
Located across the courtyard from the Main House, we offer our Carolinian Room for groups with up to 30 participants. This meeting room features natural light with four sets of picture windows that overlook the woodlands, lily pond, and a walkout terrace area. We can also offer an adjoining breakout room, which is a great feature, and outdoor dining is available in the summer months.
For larger groups, I offer our Orchard room that can accommodate up to 48 participants, or our newest addition our Firshade Room that can hold up to 75 participants. These rooms are stunning with floor to ceiling windows that look over the grounds, audio and visual including ceiling mounted projectors and screens, and a climate controlled atmosphere.
What I love most about our Firshade Room is the adjoining space that can be used for dining or breakout rooms. The Hall – a smaller adjoining room – can be divided into three private sections or set up for daytime meals. In the warmer seasons, this space also offers our elegant Summer House – an outdoor wooden pavilion where participants can truly enjoy the country setting by overlooking our famed vegetable garden for dining or impromptu meetings.
What types of team building activities are available?
We offer a range of different team building activities both on and off site so I always ask my clients what their main goal is for their group and how much time they want to dedicate to the activity.
If you are looking for a short break from business, I love to recommend a wine tasting for the group. Our sommeliers love to chat about wine and an hour tasting and discussion is an ideal activity to plan just before dinner instead of a cocktail reception.
For more of a hands-on activity that can also be enjoyed prior to dinner, an interactive cooking class is a great intimate experience. Your team will assist our chef in creating tasteful and inspired bite-sized canapés to be enjoyed with a glass of wine.
Do you have an adventurous team? Archery lessons and axe throwing are fun and unique activities for participants. Our nationally certified coaches will come onsite to take you through the rudiments and principles and will have you hitting bull’s-eye in no time.
In addition to some of these activities, all overnight and corporate guests are welcome to enjoy our full amenities including our billiards room, walking trails, sports equipment (such as tennis, bikes, and croquet), exercise room, sauna, steam room and whirlpool, as well as our outdoor seasonal pool.
What makes the cuisine at Langdon Hall unique?
We are proud to be the only CAA/AAA Five-Diamond restaurant in Ontario and it was an honour to be ranked the 5th best restaurant in Canada in 2018.
As a Feast On certified and Ocean Wise partner, we are committed to ensuring our menu items are sustainably and responsibly sourced. So we work with local farmers, foragers, and artisans, as well as grow many ingredients in our kitchen garden to provide the best quality and create menus that showcase a unique sense of place experience.
Closer to the event date, our catering team shares our seasonal menus and works with clients to make selections. Our goal is to be as accommodating as possible, so we are pleased to work together to create customized menus and make arrangements for any dietary requests.
